I've got a good parts collection going just need to start putting stuff on and get the 2.9L turbo engine together. There are a bunch of things I need to do to the engine bay before the turbo motor goes on. Looking to try and get some of this done this week.

Larger rad and electric fan will be installed. But I need to modify the mounting brackets to move the rad and fan closer to the engine, so I have more room for the intercooler.

Built a set of traction bars since I was getting alot of wheel hop.

Holy hell does it ever hook up now!!

If I only had decent tires with traction.

Installed a fiberglass roll pan. It's from a 93-97 ranger, so it will need just minor work to make it fit perfect. As it is it fits pretty damned good.




BTW if your wondering, most of this stuff will be broken down this summer, blasted and painted. Just too damned cold in the winter to paint in an unheated shop. Don't think the wife and kids would like the smell if painted in the house.

Things got Derailled this year. Broke my leg on Feb 18th and was laid up for some time.

Did get some progress and had a few setbacks.

I was going to convert the truck to run an automatic transmission but couuldn't find the driveshaft yoke for the transmission I was using. Sad thing was I had the old engine and transmission out when I found this out. SO I put the old stuff back in and got it back running. Started driving it around with the plastic removable cast and after a week I just went balls out and drove with out cast. It's not been too bad. This truck has a very heavy clutch.

While I was in cast I swapped cars with my Father, so I was driving an autoshift. Made things easier for me. Dad did a few things to the truck, nothing major. Just some red oxide primer.

Sold the Mercury Grill and tailgate skin.

Anyway on to Pictures and updates.
When I got it back from my Dad and after getting it back together. I trimmed the rust out of the rear fenders and rolled a new lip.

Did the same to the fronts.


Sectioned the fiberglass rollpan and put on a smooth tailgate skin.


Put an old school wheel from an 84 ranger. (Can see the plastic temp cast.)

Looking around for a front air dam and was having a hard time finding the one I wanted at the price I wanted to pay.

Decided to build my own. Took two stock parts and grafted them together.

Holes for lights

Fiberglassed

Done good enough

Installed brackets that move the radius arms (Strut bars)

This will give me more room when I pull the engine and trans out again.


One day driving home I got thinking that more power would be nice and make the fun factor even better. Was thinking how I could get the turbo on with minimal down time. Decided that I was going to put the original 4.0L engine back into the truck and install the turbo kit I build years ago. Since then I have been collectiong parts, to make it better.

Enter take 2 of the 4.0L turbo.
Started getting things ready. Since I already moved a few things it was time to get more things going. Needed room for Intercooler and piping. Started by welding in a battery tray on the other side of truck.

Moved the battery and hooked it up.


Started to cut for intercooler placement

Gives me lots of room to snake the IC pipes.



So I bent some brackeets to mount the intercooler to the rad support.



Just wating for help to get the 4.0L pulled out of its temp home (In my Blue Bronco)

Going to install a set of free float rocker spacers I had made.


Started Wraping the exhaust with header wrap. Got the up tube and down pipe done. Started on the y-pipe (Crossover) and ran out. I guess 65 feet isn't enough. Need another 15 foot roll to complete.

Big update done this weekend was paint. Finally painted the black.


Got it all back together.


Painted pinstripe on wheels to break up the black a bit.


Haven't done anything with the tailgate yet. It's all welded just needs to be ground down and some filler added. Will paint the grill and headlight buckets when I have the tailgate ready.

Should have some more updates this week.

I am still rocking the SkogenRacing decal on my hood. I have a pair of the white, round Forest ones. I was going to put them on the front fenders. Should I still??

False advertising. Couldn't feel any extra power today.

Really nice paintwork and huge facelift! Keep it up.

It's not the greatest paint but I'm happy that it's not patchy like it was. It looks respectable now. It's not a show car, never inteded it to be.

all you need now is some Phat rims

Nice looking truck! But you should drop in a fule injected Ford 302 V8 from a 80is/90is Ford Mustang and then turbocharge it instead of the 4.0

To me a 5.0L swap is boring and played out. I strive to be different. How many 4.0L turbo's do you know of? I know of a couple. 5.0L swaps I Know of a bunch.

I've already done most of the work on a pervious build and like with all things starting out, you learn from mistakes and make it better second time around.

I'm planning for 10 psi and to see if I can push it to 240+ HP to the wheels.

Already have a Innovate Lc-1 wideband on the way and may look at getting a snow performance methanol injection kit or get a QuarterHorse for my stock ECU.

Still think I can get it tuned with the Vortech FMU and the array of injectors I have.

May look at bumping up to to a larger turbo HY351. Would require me to change the flanges on the pipes.

Trying to finish up paint before it starts to get too cold.

Decided it need to get the Mercury badge back.




Finishing up the bodywork on the tailgate. Once the grill is ready then I'll finish the paint.
